Division: Ecosystems
The Institute of Applied Ecology has analysed terrestrial and aquatic habitats and ecosystems for more than 15 years. Founded in 1993 as a private research organization, the institute specializes on environmental monitoring, providing both public agencies and private companies with expert ecological consulting services. While most of our activities are carried out on the German Baltic coast, we are increasingly engaged in nation-wide and international projects. Our staff includes experts in the full range of scientific and engineering disciplines. Within an established network of international partners, we are committed to developing innovative ideas to understand the complexity of the natural environment and to assess human-caused environmental impacts.
The Institute of Applied Ecology houses state-of-the-art facilities and equipment, including benthological and eco-physiological laboratories, remote-controlled underwater vehicles, as well as radar and videographic systems for detecting migrating birds. Our specimen collection of benthic organisms includes almost 12000 classified individuals from 600 taxa. Our research facilities allow our experts to remain current with the latest developments in environmental science.
