Division: Bio Solar

The field of work of the bio solar division is the development of efficient technology using solar energy which enables utilization of biological systems. Currently microalgae are at the center of R&D with the objective to efficiently bind CO2 and thus make a major contribution to sustainable energy and materials management.

A ‘Christmas Tree’ shaped photo bioreactor test station (picture 1 and 2) at Anhalt University in Koethen is the most recent implementation of a novel and innovative photo bio reactor. Initial results are very promising and will lead to a microalgae base (consisting of 4 reactors) in 2012.

In addition to the development of the ‘Christmas Tree’ reactor, future R&D projects are planned which will link the microalgae technology with the technologies developed by the bio energy and IT divisions. Furthermore, a close cooperation with other R&D partners (universities) is anticipated in order to achieve the identified goals.
