Division: Water resource management / Limnology
The division water resource management and limnology handles tasks related to standing water areas as well as streams. The service portfolio includes expert assessments and concepts, from inventory analysis to implementation planning and realization. The division has extensive experience with investigation and modeling of streams and lakes as well as water resource management, water structure and consistency and also water treatment.
The working group water resource management reviews running waters and streams and their drainage area and cultivation. The working group limnology handles measurements, complex assessments as well as prognoses for bodies of standing water.
Working Group Water Resource Management
Complex assessments of streams and their drainage areas
- Expert assessment of condition, pollution and other deficits based on biological, chemical, physical and hydraulic grading
- Scientific studies
Linked model supported resource management of surface waters
- Application of linked hydraulic-ecological water modeling (e.g. FGSM of DWA, AQUASIM)
- Hydraulic modeling using 1D and 2D models (HEC-RAS/Hydro_as-2d)
- Integrated groundwater – surface water assessment
Assessments according to EU Water Management Framework Directive, Preparation of regulatory action
-
Appraisal according to EU Water Management Framework Directive, deficits discharge, concept development of actions to be taken (water resource development plans and concepts), utilizing GIS and data bases
- Water structure and quality mapping, assessment of consistency
Concept development and implementation
- Water resource management concepts (discharge, extraction, water quantity management, water tourism etc.)
- River restoration, water maintenance plans
- Water treatment, water treatment plant optimization (utilizing CAD) from base estimates to construction management
Working Group Limnology
Limnological and hydrological review of bodies of standing waters
- Complex limnological reports for lakes, particularly mining lakes (hydro chemical and ecological modeling of water, acidification and trophic forecasts)
- Modeling of water balance (hydrological / meteorological parameters, seeping water transport)
Impact analysis of uses and utilization as well as planning, monitoring and evaluation of lake rehabilitation measures
- Complex assessment of chemical and biological quality criteria (e.g. in terms of changes of use, EU Water Management Framework Directive), including data management and optimization of monitoring networks (monitoring network operator plans)
- Identification and impact assessment of proposed plants and facilities on surface waters conditions
Field measurements, sampling, laboratory testing and quality control
(in collaboration with the in-house laboratory of the GICON group)
- Sampling, special sampling, development of measurement concepts
- Hydrological and meteorological field measurements, GPS-based surveying and mapping
- Biological, chemical and physical analysis
- Determination of soil physical characteristics, specific sediment identification
- Qualitative and quantitative analysis and assessment of aquatic sediments, testing for usability
- Implementation of external quality control for sampling and analysis (in-house or external quality control)
