Department: Environmental Toxicology
The department of Environmental Toxicology is primarily concerned with the effects of environmental pollutants and other stressors on aquatic organisms in marine and freshwater ecosystems. Using various biomarkers, the “health” of suitable indicator organisms (biological indicators) is analysed to assess the status of aquatic ecosystems.
Our methods include genotoxic and cellular tests, histological examinations of organs and the detection of reproductive disorders. In addition, we carry out, field tests for contamination of selected indicator organisms in collaboration with analytical chemical laboratories. For all work steps well-equipped laboratories are available.
