Physically handicapped and chronically ill children and young adults challenge GICON employees to a soccer match!

Physically handicapped and chronically ill children and young adults played a soccer match against a team from GICON - Großmann Ingenieur Consult GmbH

The mood of the players was evident on their faces, and their delight at the imminent battle for the ball was electric, as the young soccer players and the men of GICON stood opposite each other on the sporting court at the center for the physically and mentally handicapped on Fischhaus Street in Dresden.

Every goal was cheered by the crowd, and even after goals against the young players didn’t allow themselves to lose heart, rather strove to put the ball in play as much as possible, in order to be able to guide it to the net.

An exciting duel, with two 20-minute halves and a five-minute overtime, resulted in a 10-10 draw.  Finally, after penalty kicks there was a decision…a 14-13 victory for the kids!

The happiest player on this day was 11-year-old Dominik.  He stood at center court, on his birthday, and celebrated the victory: “The Cup is one the best birthday presents!”

The happiness of his three teammates was also evident on their faces.  After the game, all players received a hard-earned medal.

"The kids played really great and gave their all.  The game was a lot of fun.” So was the unanimous opinion of all the GICON players.

The agreement for a soccer match came about after a joint, memory-filled day at the Dresden Zoo in August.  The GICON employees kept their promise to the kids and took part in the soccer match.  GICON has supported the Association for the Physically Handicapped and Chronically Ill Children and Teenagers (www.rollimaus.de) for over a year.  Alongside financial support, this means above all a personal connection between the GICON employees and the children and young adults which reaps rewards for both sides.

The next sporting duel is already in preparation…
