GICON® donates Germany scholarship to the University of Rostock
Fabian Schumacher receives support for his mechanical engineering studies
Fabian Schumacher, student of mechanical engineering at the University of Rostock, has received a Germany scholarship sponsored by GICON®. The 24-year-old from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is studying mechanical engineering at the University of Rostock and will soon be completing his master’s degree with a focus on fluid mechanics & aerodynamics and wind energy technology. ’The Germany Scholarship Program (Deutschland Stipendium) is an important project for funding the future of young talent at our universities. We are happy to support that, ”says GICON® founder Prof. Jochen Großmann. In Germany, around 28,200 students currently benefit from a Germany scholarship. Each student receives 300 euros monthly support, regardless of income.
The Deutschland Stipendium is managed by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research and provides financial and non-material support to high-achieving and committed students from all over the world. Modelled after the principle of public-private partnership, businesses, foundations or private individuals sponsor young talent with a pledge of 150 euros per month. The Federal Government matches this amount with another 150 euros.
For Fabian Schumacher, the scholarship is on the one hand "the opportunity to make new contacts" and on the other hand "financial support for the transition from studying to professional life". In addition to his student life, he enjoys his hobbies such as music (he plays the horn and guitar), as well as CNC technology. He recently completed a (partly) 3D-printed CNC-controlled milling machine. He sees his professional future in the field of wind energy technology / renewable energies or in obtaining a PhD subsequent to his master’s degree.
Wind energy technology is also an important topic for GICON®. Among other things, the group is engaged in the construction of wind power generation and prepares comprehensive environmental reports for wind energy projects. The company is also the technology leader in the field of innovative combined pile and slab foundations. These are used on challenging subsoils such as those found in former lignite mining areas. In addition, in cooperation with the Technical University Bergakademie Freiberg and the University of Rostock, the teams have developed a floating substructure (GICON®-SOF), for construction of floating offshore wind turbines in water depths of up to 350 meters.
"As a company, we are interested in having highly trained specialists in our ranks. For this reason alone, it goes without saying that we support scholarships such as the Deutschlandstipendium and we are pleased that we can help a committed student such as Fabian Schumacher, to achieve his academic goals.” says GICON® founder Prof. Großmann, summarizing the group's commitment. In addition to supporting students at the University of Rostock, GICON® also supports students at the Anhalt University of Applied Sciences.
